INDIAN ELECTION VIOLENCE
A 10-year-old boy was attacked and his
eye gouged out by men in India's eastern
Bihar state after his parents
refused to vote for a candidate in local
elections, news reports said on Friday.
A group of men gouged out the boy's
left eye with a scythe earlier this week
after his parents refused to vote for
their chosen candidate in a villagebody
election in Bihar's Begusarai district,
NDTV channel reported quoting

MALAYSIAN GIRL FAKES OWN
KIDNAP TO HELP BOYFRIEND
A college student in Ipoh staged her
own kidnapping to extort money from
her family to settle her boyfriend's
debts, The Star newspaper reported
yesterday.
With the help of a friend, the 19-
year-old girl plotted the fake abduction
with her boyfriend and demanded an
RM80,000 ($34,300) ransom, a top police
official said. "She was actually hiding
out at two hotels in Kuala Lumpur," he
told reporters yesterday.

US WARNS ABOUT FLAW
IN MICROSOFT WINDOWS
The United States Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) urged personal
computer owners on Thursday to
immediately fix a dangerous vulnerability
in Microsoft's Windows operating
systems.
It was unusual for the US government's
anti-terrorism department to call
on the public to seal a crack in
Windows before attackers broke in.
“This vulnerability could impact government
systems, private industry and
critical infrastructure, as well as individual
and home users," the DHS said.
PC users were called on to apply
Microsoft security patch MS06-040 “as
quickly as possible". — AFP

DOCS CONSIDER SURGERY
FOR TWO-HEADED BABY
Doctors in Indonesia said on
Thursday they were unsure
whether they would be able to
operate on a two-headed
newborn (picture).
The baby girl was born
after a caesarian operation on
Aug 8 "in a healthy condition
... and with complete organs"
said a spokeswoman at the
Jakarta hospital where the
baby is being treated.
The infant was formed the
same way as Siamese twins
but only has one body and one
set of organs. — AFP
